Design, Build & Comfort
The Boat Rockerz 255 Pro Plus follows the same philosophy as it’s older brothers, the Rockerz 255 and 255 Pro. The overall design of the Rockerz 255 Pro+ is pretty typical as we have seen in most of the budget neckband style Bluetooth earphones.
The build quality is also decent and justifies the price tag. Only ear modules are metal made, otherwise, all other parts are plastic or PVC made. I don’t have any complaint about the build, but I am not very impressed with the wire build quality. The Wire is very thin and longer than regular size earphones and it makes things a little bit uncomfortable when you move your head around, and also give some kind of cheap feel. And the big control unit also placed separately on the right side, which definitely ruins the premium feel.
One thing I like most about Rockerz 255 Pro Plus is that comfort, the lightweight design, good quality silicone ear tips and 120-degree tangle ear-canal offer decent comfort, and you can easily wear these earphones for approx 2-3 hours continuously without any problem. I also tested these earphones while GYM time and it proved the Sport oriented design. The headsets also come with IPX7 Waterproof rating, so don’t worry about rain and sweat.
On the right side, there is a separate control unit with the microphone. There are three multifunction buttons, which is very responsive and let you control volume, music track, and calls. You can decrease or increase the volume, change music tracks, and answer or decline a call by clicking on the buttons. You can also control the google voice assistance and Siri with a power button. There is also a small LED indicator light and USB Type-C port for charnging.
Connectivity & Microphone
In terms of connectivity, the Boat Rockerz 255 Pro Plus use Bluetooth v5.0 which is the latest one, and pretty much a standard on Bluetooth earphones in this price range. The best thing is that it supports Qualcomm’s aptX codec, so it maintains a pretty strong and stable connection with the host device, and also improve the overall audio quality. It also supports the auto-switching connection, which allows you to change the device within a minute (up to two devices). Overall, I didn’t find any connectivity and compatibility related issue in the Rockerz 255 Pro Plus.
Coming to microphone quality, it has a tiny microphone in the remote section which is decent in most cases. The microphone comes with Qualcomm CVC Call Noise Cancellation support, which minimises the background noise and improves the overall voice clarity. In my testing, it works really good in indoor use, but in outdoor use, this tiny mic still struggles to catch the voice with a stable frequency. Sound Quality
Coming to one of the most important aspects of any pair of earphones you’ll ever buy — the audio quality. For starters, Rockerz 255 Pro Plus offer fairly good audio quality with a good amount of bass with the 10mm drivers, the bass note is very high and offers the punchy feel, which the legacy of Boat Audio. So if you like Bass more than anything then you will love these boat earphones. The bass is deep as well, which makes these Boat 255 Pro Plus great for listening to bass-heavy music.
But like other heavy bass oriented earphones, the vocal and treble are slightly dull compared to the bass, not too much but slightly. so if you’re not one for bass-heavy music, then you can skip these earphones. The best part is that it comes with Qualcomm APTx Codec along with SBC and AAC, which enhance the overall sound experience and offer low latency. So if mobile gaming included in your daily routine, then this can be an ideal choice for you under 1700 Rs budget.
The earphones also offer a decent amount of noise isolation as well, thanks to the angled design of the ear tips. Overall, the Rockerz 255 Pro+ offer decent audio quality with reach bass.
Battery
With the 300mAh battery on the earphones, the company promises about 40 hours of battery life when listening with 60% volume. But during my test, I found it’s just marking glimpse. I got slightly over 18 hours of battery life when listening at 70% volume. And these numbers are not bad, 18 to 20 hours of music playback time is more than enough for a regular user and most of the Bluetooth earphones in this price bracket provide similar battery backup.
It also has support for fast charging that can offer 7-8 hours of playback with 10 minutes of charging as well. And thanks to Boat, for providing USB Type-C charging port.
Final Word
For Rs. 1499, the Boat Rockerz 255 Pro Plus is the decent pair of neckband style wireless earphones and blown away the competition by offering features at this price point. The lightweight design, decent audio experience with high and punchy bass, and decent battery life are the prime points of these earphones. So, there is no doubt the Rockerz 255 Pro Plus is the best buy option under 1500 Rs budget. But for 2000 Rs price bracket and balanced audio lover, the OPPO ENCO M31 and OnePlus Bullets Z are still the best options rather than this one. The boAt Rockerz 335 (Rs. 1599) is another solid option to check out, sound quality and feature offers are almost the same. However, at Rs. 1499 the Boat Rockerz 255 Pro Plus are definitely worth a look-see.
