In a recent official blog post, WhatsApp announced a new feature that allows users to record and share short personal videos directly in chats. Building on the success of voice messages, which revolutionized communication by providing a quick and secure way to share one’s voice, WhatsApp is taking things a step further with instant video messages.
According to WhatsApp, video messages offer a real-time way to respond to chats, enabling users to express themselves with emotion in a 60-second video format. Whether sending birthday wishes, sharing a laugh at a joke, or delivering good news, video messages enhance the messaging experience and bring more spontaneity and life to conversations.
To ensure the security and privacy of WhatsApp users, video messages are protected with end-to-end encryption, just like other messages on WhatsApp.
How to record WhatsApp video messages?
Recording a video message is as easy as sending a voice message. Users can switch to video mode in chats and hold the record button to capture their video. A hands-free recording option is also available by swiping up to lock the recording. The videos will play automatically on mute when opened in a chat, with sound starting when the recipient taps on the video.
Availability
The new video messages feature has already begun rolling out for Android and iOS users, and it will be available to all users in the coming weeks.
The rollout of this new feature comes on the heels of WhatsApp introducing several other enhancements in recent months. One such feature automatically silences calls from unknown numbers, giving users more control over their communication. Additionally, WhatsApp now allows users to edit a sent message within 15 minutes of sending it, offering a chance to correct mistakes or clarify information. Furthermore, WhatsApp is reportedly working on introducing usernames, which could streamline user identification.
