2. Moto G60

The Moto G60 is our second choice on the list of best phones under 25000 Rs. Motorola has clearly lost its fame after being taken over by Lenovo. The company has remained under the realm for a while and has finally taken the wraps off its latest Moto offering which is the Moto G60. Before you might start researching, no, the company did not release 39 other devices in the G-series before launching the Moto G60. The last Moto G-series device has to be the Moto G10 which did not turn a lot of heads. The company had already confirmed that they are revamping its G-series naming completely.

The USP here is the 108 MP camera on the back of the device. For under 20,000 Rs in India, Moto G60 looks promising, at least on the paper with a 120Hz display, 108 MP Cameras, Snapdragon 732G SoC, 6000 mAh battery, and of course near to stock Android interface. As for the design, the device has furnished with a broad and big footprint and weighs about 225 grams. The display itself is good with Full-HD+ resolution, 120 Hz refresh rate, and HDR10 support. At this price, we cannot ask Moto for more!

Oh yes, there is a Google Assistant button, headphone jack, and a Type-C port. As for the internals, the device is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 732G SoC. As one might already know, G on Snapdragon SoC stands for gaming. So if you are wondering about the gaming performance, well, it’s great, courtesy of the Adreno 618 GPU onboard. The overall performance is no slouch, thanks to the 6GB LPDDR4x RAM coupled with 128 GB of UFCP storage. With that said, let me address the elephant of the room, the optics.

The primary camera here is a 108 MP Samsung ISOCELL HM2 sensor. The main camera shoots great photos with good dynamic range, but, it often hunts for focus. The secondary sensor is an 8 MP ultrawide unit with a 119-degree field of view and the tertiary is a 2 MP depth-sensing unit. Despite not having a separate sensor, the device can shoot macro shots using the ultrawide sensor. We have seen this kind of implementation in the past with OnePlus devices if I am not wrong and I wish more brands vouch for similar implementation. The 6000 mAh battery can last over a day with moderate to high usage patterns.

3. Xiaomi Mi 10i

Xiaomi Mi 10i is one of my favorite smartphones on the list and is arguably the best device you can get at this price point. Before we talk about all the goods of this device, let me address one thing I did not like here. The “i” in Mi 10i stands for India and the device is an Indian exclusive one. But, the device is not totally new as it mirrors Xiaomi Mi 10T Lite in all terms. The device kills every other device at this price point with its loaded spec-sheet and price to performance.

With the launch of this smartphone, one thing is clear! Xiaomi wants to be known as a legit top-end device and a credible alternative to the OnePlus Nord series. The device checks majority of the boxes but still there is room for development. For starters, the software and the display are not up to the mark. Competing with the Nord, especially with Oxygen OS on-board, Xiaomi’s MIUI is not that great!

The phone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G SoC making it one of the best performing devices at this price. Gaming, without a doubt, shines. With a 120 Hz display refresh rate and Adreno 619 GPU, gaming here is an absolute pleasure. But RAM management is worse at times. This has to be expected with MIUI 12 onboard. With that said, let’s talk cameras. Well, this is the third device on our list which sports a 108 MP sensor. But, this 108 MP sensor is the latest and the smallest one.

The secondary is an 8 MP sensor which is not as great but gets the job done. The third and fourth sensors are macro and depth sensors, which like always are not worth discussing. With all that out of the way, let us talk battery. The 4820 mAh battery here is great. Despite being partly responsible for the overall heft of the device, I love it considering the fact that it helps you to use the phone throughout the day without worrying much about the battery. MIUI plays a role here as MIUI’s optimizations for batteries are industry best in my opinion.

The Poco X3 is the best gaming phone under 25000 Rs. Poco F1 has to the first phone from any company that has received a massive sales figure and positive response all over. Despite gaining massive popularity, Poco did face a lot of issues releasing its next smartphone and has launched a couple of rebranded Xiaomi phones over the years. While all of the Poco phones are popular, they are not F1-level popular. So, continuing the Poco F1’s legacy the company has released Poco X3 Pro. The device is considered a spiritual successor to the Poco F1 and an upgrade to the last year’s Poco X3.

Poco X3 Pro, despite not carrying the company’s F moniker, is all about power and affordability. For starters, the device is powered by Snapdragon 860, which of course is a 4G processor but it performs like no other phone in the segment. Poco did not cut any corners here and one can assure that this is the best of what a company could make at a price of around Rs 20,000 in India. The design itself is not fresh but follows the Poco legacy over the generations. I mean, it looks almost similar to the Poco X3 side-by-side.

Like most of the devices in this price range, the device features a full-HD IPS LCD display with a refresh rate of 120Hz. Yes, AMOLED could’ve been better but it is what it is. It is worth noting that the refresh rate here shifts between 30Hz, 50 Hz, and so on depending on the task you are performing. As for the SoC, Poco has gone in a different route contrasting the competition. That said, the performance is top-notch and Adreno 640 onboard handles gaming so smoothly.

Oh yes, to make the phone stand out from the competition, Poco has added in a liquid cooling system that helps the device from overheating and enables gamers to groove for longer periods. Well, as for cameras, just like any other gaming phone, you don’t see any fancy numbers here. But you get a quad-rear camera setup with a 48 MP primary shooter which can shoot good quality images. There is also an 8 MP ultrawide shooter which brings a mediocre performance to the table. Like always Poco had thrown in two useless sensors.

Now, to keep the prices minimal, Realme chose to stick with a 60Hz display refresh rate. But, the display itself is bright and the OSIE effect here ensures bright visuals. Under the hood, the device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G SOC coupled with 6 or 8 GB of RAM. As most of you know, the “G” in the SoC stands for gaming. Now, this means, gaming here is a cupcake.

The SoC coupled with Adreno 618 GPU can manage to run any title without sweating. And as for average day-to-day performance, the device is quite capable and handles everything smoothly. But what do these numbers mean for a real-world performance? If given an ample amount of light both the primary and secondary cameras shine. The depth sensor and macro cameras are present just to add up the total numbers of cameras in my opinion. I did not like the portrait mode here and the implementation is different than other Samsung devices. The background blur or the bokeh is just too much and looks very unnatural. The edge detection is good, but the overall implementation is just bogus.

The premium smartphone market is on the rage right now. With iQoo and OnePlus entering the market with their premium budget offerings, Xiaomi has loaded its guns with Mi 11X Pro. On the paper, the 11X Pro could potentially be a threat to the majority of the phones on the list, courtesy of excellent hardware at an effective price. For under 40000 INR, you get a lot. For starters, the device is powered by the latest and greatest Snapdragon 888 SoC. Featuring a large AMOLED display with minimal bezels and a small punch-hole, the facade of the device looks amazing.

But the back is where all the magic happens. Take a look at the camera setup. Damn, that back! That’s my initial reaction. All the devices in the Mi 11 series have stunning rears, thanks to the in-house designers at Xiaomi. But, do note that the fingerprint is embedded in the power key despite having an AMOLED display. It is an absolute shocker at this price. The speakers and audio here are great with a stereo speaker setup on the top and bottom. While you cannot find the IR sensor on the device, it is said that the sensor is embedded in one of the speaker grills.

As for the optics, the device shoots some great images if given good lighting. Lowlight is not where it can produce usable images. Despite being a 108 MP sensor, by default, the image saves at 12 MP (pixel-binning and all that). Ultrawide can produce distortion, as one can expect. The colors are punchy and sharp given the MIUI camera’s optimization. The telemacro camera is a worthy addition with amazing details. All this is powered by a 4520 mAh battery and the device ships with a 33W fast charger.

The design takes a lot of influence from the OnePlus devices, which is not a bad thing at all. On the front, the device features a small punch-hole notch coupled with thin bezels. But, the chin is marginally thick. Coming to the display, the device boasts a 6.95-inch display. Now, that the reason behind the phablet form-factor. Do note that the device’s display is huge at any price point, and even larger than Galaxy S21’s display. Many might argue with the fact that the display is huge for one-handed use, but on the bright side, it is great for media consumption. The panel itself is 1080 x 2460 full HD+ one, but no fancy screen refresh rate here.

Under the hood, the device is powered by MediaTek Helio G85 SoC. The device does not tire a bit during the overall usage. I mean, the day-to-day performance is top-notch and so is gaming. The gameplay, no matter which title you consider can be played in high graphics with excellent frame rates. But during the extensive gaming periods, it tends to shutter a bit. On the software front, the device features Android 11 based XOS 7.6 with a huge pile of bloat. The UI elements are unintuitive and irritating at times. There are also ads in the UI. Overall hate the device UI and its choices.

As for the optics, the device features a 48 MP primary sensor coupled with a 2 MP macro and 2 MP telephoto lens. At this price point, you cannot expect massive auxiliary cameras. But for what it is worth, the 48 MP main shooter is a charm. It shoots excellent images for all your social media needs. The portrait mode here is surprisingly amazing with great edge detection and nice depth of field. For the selfie lovers though, the inclusion of Beauty mode with AI support is a nice addition.

The idea of the series is simple! The company plans to bring great mobile gaming capabilities and features at affordable pricing. This is the device that was launched after the Narzo 20, meaning there are a lot of expectations here. And Narzo 30A just delivers that without even sweating a bit.

We always mention this in our reviews and buying guides and this goes without saying. Realme is one such brand that does not compromise on the design, despite its affordability factors. Realme Narzo 30A is no exception to that. The device has a unique design with a dual pattern with the lower half being diagonal lines and the upper part being plain. Realme has gone with a square-shaped camera cutout on the back which again, reminds me of Realme Narzo 20. Do note that the fingerprint sensor is found on the back of the device.

The device is not a light one for sure considering it weighs about 207 grams. The sides are rounded for better grip as well as to mask the thickness of the device. As for the display, the device boasts 6.5-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels. The display itself is smooth and does not disappoint during media consumption at all. Under the hood, the device is powered by MediaTek Helio G85 SoC which in my opinion is good for what you are paying. As for gaming, you can play any huge title on the device at medium graphics and high frame rates. The device itself is available in two variants to choose from including 3 GB 32 GB and 4 GB 64 GB variants.

Unlike Infinix Note 10, there are no fancy numbers on the optics front. The primary sensor here is a 13 MP shooter coupled with the monochrome sensor of unknown resolution. In broad daylight, the device performs well with sharp images. Being a device from the house of Realme, the camera app is jampacked with Chroma Boost that helps in producing contrasty and detailed images. The AI features also takes a bump here making the experience far better. On the front, the 8 MP shooter produces the images as you would expect.

All this is backed by a 6000 mAh battery that gets you throughout the day. I mean, it’s really hard to kill the device in one day. No matter how intense titles you play. But, it is worth noting that huge batteries result in more time to charge. The 18W charger takes more than one and a half hours to juice up the device. I really wish Realme could’ve gone with a fast charger here.

The only difference between the Galaxy M12 and F12 is with the textured back on M12. The F12 has stripped back panel. The device features a 6.5-inch PLS LCD panel with a resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels. Yes, it is only a 720p display in the list. But one good thing that Samsung has done here is the implementation 90Hz display refresh rate. The viewing angles of the display are not good to our liking but it gets the job done. Despite having the 90Hz, Samsung has locked the refresh rate to 60Hz on various parts of the UI giving a choppy experience.

Under the hood, the device is powered by Samsung Exynos 850 SoC. This is one of the latest additions to the company’s Exynos portfolio. As for the performance, the device performs like, well, a budget phone. In a day-to-day usage scenario, the performance is okay-ish but as mentioned earlier, there is an occasional lag and stutter. Gaming here is great if you only use lower settings. Medium settings are supported but the game lags a lot with a lot of frame drops and etc.

Just like any other budget phone, the cameras here just to add up the numbers. The primary sensor is a 48 MP unit which is coupled with a 5 MP secondary ultrawide camera. There are two 2 MP depth and macro sensors. By these numbers, you might have already understood that, except for the primary camera, the rest are merely useless. The battery is one place where the device actually shines. The 6000 mAh battery can get you throughout a day or even two with moderate usage.

Apart from this, the display is protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass 3 which will save the display from accidental scratches. It also comes with a P2i coating on the body that will keep liquid droplets away. On the display department, the Redmi Note 9 Power features a 6.53-inch Full HD+ display with a resolution of 2340 × 1080 pixels resolution with 400 nits brightness and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The brightness of the display is quite good and should be very legible even under bright sunlight outdoors.

The performance is one area where Redmi 9 Power beat its competition by a significant margin. It comes with Octa-Core Snapdragon 662 chipset coupled with the 4GB/6GB RAM performs fine with all the day-to-day apps and games without any issues. In the front, there is an 8MP selfie shooter with an f/2.0 aperture. Overall, the camera performance is really good and definitely justifies the price tag. The primary lens works really well in daylight, pictures are generally sharp and vibrant. The dynamic range, while lacking in some aspects, is acceptable for this price range.

After staying under the realm for quite some time, Micromax is back with yet another budget offering in the country. Unlike the previous devices from the company, Micromax In 1 promises something and delivers it without a doubt. Like Ash from C4ETech said, the company has perfectly planned its launch timeline and the device itself cashes in on the anti-china revolution in the country. After personally using the device, I really have to say that, the device is super great for the price and there are various reasons for that. For starters, unlike the competition, the device features a clean Android experience.

The device features an excellent design for the price. Despite being an all-plastic build, it looks super-premium with a dual-color gradient and an ‘X’ pattern. The fingerprint sensor resides on the back of the device and the whole back has a texture for better grip. Micromax did not cut any corners with the display here and the device boasts a 6.67-inch IPS LCD display with Full HD+ resolution and a 20:9 aspect ratio. Also, there is support for Widevine L1 here. Meaning, you can stream in HD on all the OTT platforms. Although there is no fancy refresh rate, the device holds up everything smoothly.

Under the hood, the device is powered by MediaTek Helio G80 SoC. Mali G52 handles the graphic duties here. Being a gaming SoC, it can handle all the graphic intense titles pretty well in medium graphics. That said, near-to stock experience comes as an added benefit. It was an excellent experience booting into stock Android and literally no bloatware. As for the optics, there is a triple rear camera arrangement here. One thing I felt unnecessary here is the AI branding on the top. That said, a primary 48 MP camera if given enough light can shoot decent images and the addition of 2 MP depth and 2 MP macro is a welcome move.

All this is backed by a 5000 mAh battery and comes with an 18W fast charger. Obviously, the phone can get you throughout the day and charging might take anywhere between one and a half to two hours.

Despite having more than half a dozen models from Xiaomi and Realme in this segment, Infinix Hot 10S has grabbed our attention. With a great spec sheet, the device shines and stands from the crowd. While it is common for us to say, at this price we cannot expect a lot, Infinix has proved to us once again with this device. Despite being priced cheap, the device goes toe-to-toe with the likes of the Redmi Note 10 and others.

As for the build and design, there is nothing fancy here. The back of the device has the whole textured vibe going and there is a rectangular camera setup. Just like most of the phones at this price range, the device comes with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. As for the display, the device features a 6.82 inch IPS LCD display with 720p resolution. That is the only thing I do not like about this device. But on the bright side, there is a 90Hz display refresh rate here. Also, the teardrop notch and the presence of a huge chin give it a whole 2019 vibe which for some is a major letdown.

Under the hood, the device is powered by MediaTek Helio G85 SoC which in my opinion is good for what you are paying. As for gaming, you can play any huge title on the device at medium graphics and high frame rates. The device itself is available in two variants to choose from including 4 GB 64 GB and 6 GB 64 GB variants. The SoC is what makes the device stand tall than the Galaxy F12. Most of the titles can run at 30-60FPS in medium graphic settings. Although the XOS 7.6 is not my favorite interface, it is much cleaner with bloat that can be uninstalled.

As for the cameras, despite having three cameras, only one camera is what users can use. The primary 48 MP sensor shoots some decent shots if given good lighting. Indoor photos though are not that great with blurry and noisy colors. A secondary sensor is a depth unit, which till today is not found to be useful on any smartphone. Finally, we have an “AI Camera” which is useful for god knows what. Yes, a lot of manufacturers have added a third or fourth sensor for the sake of increasing the number of cameras. But, Infinix has not even tried here. They have explicitly added a camera sensor that is just a dummy one and does not really work at all.

Now all this is backed by a 6000 mAh battery. At this point, 5000 and 6000 mAh has become a norm for any smartphone and so is the 18W charger. But, sadly Infinix has gone with a 10W charger which takes hours to juice up the device.

OnePlus is clearly failing to impress its fans and its potential buyers these days. After getting a lot of hate and negative reviews for its flagship 9 and 9 Pro devices, the company has a lot of time to work on its mistakes but clearly, that hasn’t been the case. Despite carrying in the ‘Never Settle’ slogan, OnePlus is making its buyers settle for less for more price. We have seen the company doing that with the OnePlus 9 series and the Nord CE 5G is not an exception to that!

On paper, the OnePlus Nord CE 5G seems like a great device, and hell, I thought so too! But after using it for more than a week and putting it through Geekman’s Review Treatment, my opinion has changed.

OnePlus Nord CE 5G Price

Before we jump into the review, let us quickly discuss the pricing of the OnePlus Nord CE 5G. The device starts at Rs. 22,999 for the base variant that has 6GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage. The mid-spec variant comes with 8GB RAM and 128GB of onboard storage and is priced at Rs. 24,999. Lastly, there is a top variant that is priced at Rs. 27,999 and packs 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. Now, you might be wondering why would I hate this device despite carrying less price for more power. Well, there are a lot of compromises here and let us discuss each compromise in detail that in the future parts of this OnePlus Nord CE review.

Design & Build

OnePlus Nord CE 5G is a good-looking device, no complaints there! But, my opinion quickly changed once I held the device in my hand. The first thing I’ve noticed is that there is no OnePlus iconic Alert Slider on this device. Also, the back of our unit is a fingerprint magnet. Well, that is expected given that we have vouched for the Charcoal Ink color variant. To avoid that we’d recommend you to buy a Blue Void or the Silver Ray colorways.

That said, the device is very light and the weight is equally distributed. The phone weighs 170g to be precise. OnePlus has gone with plastic back here instead of the glass back found on the original Nord. Hell, the original Nord has arrived with a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on the back and the CE has totally settled with plastic. The compromise does not end there as the frame is made out of plastic. Moving on, the company has managed to keep the device slim at 7.9mm making it one of the thinnest phones in the market right now.

As for the button placements, the volume rockers and the sim tray are found on the left of the device and the power key is on the right. As mentioned earlier, there is no Alert Slider here. On the bottom, there is a USB Type-C port for charging and data transfer accompanied by a 3.5mm headphone jack (welcome back, jack!). Like always, the branding on the back is minimal and the camera module is found on the top right corner.

Display

OnePlus Nord CE 5G features a 6.43-inches Full-HD+ Fluid AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels. The aspect ratio of the display is 20:9 and pixel density stands at 410 PPI. The 90Hz display refresh rate taken an attendance here and so does the in-display fingerprint sensor. As for the screen protection, the company has gone with Asahi Dragontrail glass instead of Corning Gorilla Glass 5 found on the OnePlus Nord.

That said, the display is great with punchy colors and excellent viewing angles. The display is bright enough to be visible outdoors and while you might think that OnePlus has not settled here, the lack of HDR support cashes it hard. If you think about it, at this price point, we assuredly expect the device to come with HDR support given the content on YouTube and the OTT platforms are broadening more onto the HDR side. But it is what it is and we consider this as a huge compromise.

Performance

If there is one thing that OnePlus has not compromised about on the Nord CE 5G, that has to be with the performance and followed by software. The device is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G SoC. Yes, this is the same chipset found on the Xiaomi Mi 10i and Samsung Galaxy M42 5G. The chipset on the Nord CE 5G integrates eight cores into two clusters. The fast performance cluster contains two ARM Cortex A77 cores clocked at 2.2 GHz each and a power efficiency cluster with six small ARM Cortex A55 cores at 1.8 GHz each. Adreno 619 handles the graphic duties here.

The gaming on this device, as you would expect is great and the device can play any title in the max frame rates and medium graphics. On some titles like Call of Duty and Genshin Impact, you might as well achieve high graphics but that takes a hit on frame rates and results in eventual shutters and lags. That said, we cannot expect more from the chipset here. As for the day-to-day usage that includes opening speeds of apps and all that, Snapdragon 750G coupled with Oxygen OS, its a no-brainer.

Software & Network

On the software front, well, a lot has changed in the Oxygen OS 11 and clearly, it does not offer clear to stock experience anymore. But then again, Oxygen OS is far better than FunTouch OS, MIUI, and Color OS. OnePlus has worked on improving its Oxygen OS and certainly, it has become USP for any OnePlus phone. The UI is smooth and that coupled with a 90Hz display, it’s is the best possible experience you can get at this price. The device boots with literally no bloatware, well, there is one pre-installed application i.e., Netflix, but at this point, Netflix is used by almost everyone.

With that said, let us talk network. At this point, you might have already understood the fact that the OnePlus Nord CE comes with 5G out of the box. Well, one thing to note is that the Nord CE in India only comes with one 5G band that is N78. While the Global variant comes with various 5G bands including N1, N3, N5, N8, N20, N40, and etc. Do note that this is not the first time OnePlus is doing that and this is the same reason why western media has no problem with 5G. And clearly, this is settling and is a major compromise.

Camera’s

OnePlus Nord CE 5G comes with a triple rear camera setup. While most of you think that this is a downgrade from the OnePlus Nord, technically, it’s not. The fourth sensor on the original Nord is a 2 MP macro camera. I mean, who would you a 2 MP sensor in 2021 which produces an image that you cannot even post on social media? Coming to the Nord CE’s cameras, the primary sensor is a 64 MP unit with an F/1.9 aperture and EIS. The secondary is an 8 MP ultrawide camera with a 119-degree field of view. The tertiary is a 2 MP depth sensor.

First things first, the cameras here are a downgrade from the original Nord. If you recall, the original Nord has launched with an Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) for the primary camera whereas the Nord CE only comes with an Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS). Now, that means, the low light performance and video recording are already better on the OnePlus Nord making it one more compromise for the buyers.

The images produced on the Nord CE 5G in the broad daylight are great but the images shot indoors and during the low-light conditions are a mess. The 8 MP ultrawide camera can get the job done and there is an obvious softness around the corners of the image. There is no point in discussing the depth camera, so let save time by skipping that. Although you can shoot the videos in 4K 30FPS, given the lack of OIS the videos are shaky. The videos shot in 1080P are better in my opinion as the EIS comes into play here.

The 16 MP sensor on the front is great and god only knows how long would OnePlus use the same sensor for selfies. We have already seen the same unit on half a dozen of OnePlus phones already. That said, the cameras on the OnePlus Nord CE 5G aren’t that great. I would pick last year’s OnePlus Nord over the Nord CE any day when it comes to cameras.

Battery

OnePlus Nord CE 5G comes with a 4500 mAh battery. As expected, the battery life is great and with medium usage, the device can undoubtedly last for a solid full day or even two (depending on how you use it). Even with gaming, you can pull off with a bit of juice left by the end of the day. That being backed with a Warp charger, the device can charge to 70% in under 30 minutes. Again, this is not the fastest charging phone we’ve in this budget as the iQoo Z3 that we have reviewed recently has managed to charge to 50% in under 20 minutes and it took 45 minutes to fully charge.

Verdict

Although the device sounds good, there are a lot of compromises here. Coming from a brand that goes with the “Never Settle” tagline, OnePlus is making its audience settle down for a lot less at high pricing. To be honest, if OnePlus would’ve priced the device at around Rs. 15,000 to 20,000 our review would have been different. From where we see it, the Redmi Note 10 Pro and others are far better in offering value to money than OnePlus Nord CE 5G.

In my opinion, the fall of the OnePlus has started with the announcement of Oxygen OS 11. OnePlus is known for its Oxygen OS and people just buy for it. But, OnePlus has decided to take a different route. Next up, the original Nord’s overhype followed by OnePlus x Hasselblad and the whole OnePlus 9 hype drama. Now, the Nord CE 5G. As mentioned at the very beginning of the review, OnePlus is failing to impress its fans and its potential buyers.

Vivo’s sub-brand IQOO, despite not being very popular in the country has taken a fair share in the affordable flagship market with its iQOO 7 and iQOO 7 Legend devices. The company has recently launched its first mid-range IQOO Z3 in the country which quickly has begun to build up a lot of hype around it and there are various reasons for that. For starters, the device is powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 768G SoC. It is worth noting that the Z3 has to be the first device to feature this chipset and is expected to remain exclusive for a while.

Just like all the previously launched iQoo phones in the country, the device also supports 5G out of the box. And lastly, the pricing! The device is priced at around Rs 20,000 in India and at this price point, the device goes toe-to-toe with the likes of the Redmi Note 10 series, Mi 10i, and Realme X7 series, and others. While the device sounds like a great offering on paper, can the device live up to its hype? Well, to find out the same, we have put the iQoo Z3 to Geekman’s Review Treatment and tested it extensively for more than a week.

Design

After staying under the realm for a while, iQoo has enough time to figure out and design its devices. But, the iQoo Z3 looks like a last-minute call. I mean, you are looking at a device that is launched in mid-2021 featuring a teardrop notch, a huge chin, and comparatively thick bezels.

The device features a plastic back and the looks depend on the color you go with. The Cyber Blue variant looks good with a pearlescent finish and is good at not picking the fingerprints. But, our Ace Black variant is a straight-up fingerprint magnet.

As for the camera module, it is unobtrusive. To make it appealing or for some reason, iQoo has added a silver camera outline to the primary unit which does not look good in my opinion. Also, the module does swell outwards a bit and that makes the device wobble when placed on a desk or any flat surface for that matter. Holding the device in the hand, the weight distribution is great and to my liking and yes, I could use the device one-handed. As for the branding, it is minimal.

As for the placements, the volume rockers and power key are located to the right of the device. The fingerprint sensor is embedded in the power key and gets the job done. For the headphone jack lovers out there, there is one on the Z3 which is found just beside the Type-C port on the bottom of the device.

Also, there is a single firing speaker here and that is going to be a let-down for some media consumers. As for the display protection, iQoo has gone with Panda Glass (no pun intended) which is a Gorilla Glass equivalent. Lastly, the device features an IP52 rating. Meaning, the device can survive the occasional splashes and liquid accidents.

Display

The device boasts a 6.58-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1080 x 2408 pixels. The aspect ratio of the display is 20:9 and the pixel density stands at 401 PPI. The display refresh rate here is 120Hz with a 180Hz touch sampling rate. It would’ve been an immense benefit for the device if iQoo would’ve gone with an AMOLED panel but that does not mean that the display here is bad by any means. The brightness levels are adequate, colors are punchy, and viewing angles are just okay. Like mentioned earlier, I could not take my eyes off the teardrop notch and the chin. Dear iQoo, if you are reading this, we are not in 2018!

The device is also hyped for its HDR compatibilities and that is not the case when it comes to real-world usage. I have tested it on Netflix and Amazon’s Prime Video. There is no indication of HDR titles or even the content plays in HDR. It is worth noting that the device will allow switching between three refresh rates including 60Hz, 90Hz, and 120Hz. Despite having a touch sampling rate of 180 Hz, the display is not as responsive as marketed but gets the job done.

Performance

With that all out of the way, let me address the elephant in the room here – performance. The performance is one place where the iQoo devices shine and the Z3 is not an exception to that! Featuring the Qualcomm Snapdragon 768G SoC, the device outperforms the competition. It is worth noting that Snapdragon 768G SoC is the upgraded version of the Snapdragon 765G. For those unaware, Snapdragon 765G itself is the finest and powerful mid-range SoC’s out there and is found on the devices like OnePlus Nord.

The Snapdragon 768G on the iQoo Z3 features a Kryo 475 CPU and a faster ARM Cortex-A76 cores clocked at 2.8 GHz rather than 2.4 GHz found on the 765G. The SoC touts 15% improved CPU and GPU performance and outperforms the MediaTek Dimensity 800U, Snapdragon 732G, and 750G SoCs. For those who are interested in benchmarks, the device scored 447106 in Antutu benchmarks which has to be the highest score that the industry has seen from a Snapdragon 700 series chipsets. Adreno 620 handles the graphic duties here and the device is a feast for mid-range gamers.

The device can run the games at high graphics and frame rates with stable performance for extended periods. Of course, there are some jitters and frame drops if pushed for extremely long hours of gaming but the device has managed to perform without throttling. That’s a win for gamers. Just like all the previous iQoo phones, the device also comes with a set of gaming features including a Gaming Assistant. I did not see or understand how the Eagle-Eye view is useful on the device except for bumping the vibrance and saturation. It could be just another marketing thing by the company.

Cameras

Gone are the days where you have to spend a lot to get a set of decent-performing cameras. Cameras are being taken care of by brands and have become every buyer’s priority. While the cameras on the iQoo Z3 are not potentially great and the ones that can crush the competition, they are usable. The device features a triple rear camera setup with a 64 MP primary shooter coupled with an 8 MP ultra-wide sensor and a 2 MP macro sensor. I am very glad there is no mono or depth-sensing unit here just to add up the camera count.

The primary sensor here is a Samsung’s ISOCELL GW3. For those unaware, this is a similar sensor found on the Redmi Note 10 Pro. The sensor coupled with IQOO’s camera optimizations performs reasonably well in broad daylight bringing out the shadows. Of course, this results in an overexposed image, and one can find that when shot an image that contains sky. If you zoom in to the image shot, there is a lot of detail here and luckily there is no over-sharpening going here. Take a note Xiaomi!

Clearly, the smartphone tends to shoot and produce images on the warmer side of the spectrum and struggles to get the white balance right all the time. The 8 MP secondary shooter which is a wide-angle unit gets the job done and there is nothing to brag here. Just like most mid-range phones with wide-angle cameras, the corners or the image fringes and turn out to be softer. The 2 MP macro-sensor is a useless addition in my opinion. If the company wants to add a working macro sensor to the phone, they can achieve that by tweaking the ultra-wide unit a bit. Again, iQoo wanted to add up the camera numbers here and at this point, we understand why brands tend to do that!

On the front, there is a 16 MP selfie-shooter that can produce some high-quality selfies. The details are well preserved, colors are accurate, and exposure is on point. Well, if there is one thing that company could have done better here, that has to be with the portrait mode on both the front and back of the device. The edges tend to blur at times and clearly, there is a lot of iQOO to work on in the portrait department.

Software

If you are still considering getting the iQoo Z3, this part will change your mind. The device ships with the company’s own FunTouch OS v11 that is grounded on Android 11. Get this, the device ships with a ton of bloatware that cannot be uninstalled too. Not just that, there are ads in the UI and they also take an effect on Google apps like Chrome. And one thing that pissed me off is the privacy on the FunTouch OS. Most of the system apps, including the lock screen wallpaper carousel, require phone and contacts permission to enable or disable. I mean, why would a wallpapering service or application ask you to access your contacts and private information?

Also, the interface itself is not the cleanest or the fastest one out there. There are not a lot of customization settings and the UI has a lot of half-baked features. Not just that, the UI animations jitter and the interface does not take complete advantage of the 120Hz display. Clearly, there is a lot of room for improvement on the software front.

Battery

The device is backed by a 4,400 mAh battery and comes packed with a 66W power brick. With medium to moderate usage, the device can easily last for a whole day or even two. Even with gaming, you can pull off with a bit of juice left by the end of the day. That being backed with a fast charger, the device can charge to 50% in under 20 minutes and it might take anywhere between 40-50 minutes to fully charge your device. It is worth noting that despite being shipped with a 66W charger, the device can take a maximum of 55W, which is not a bad thing at all considering the charge time is still quicker than a lot of devices.

Verdict

iQoo Z3 is a device with a lot of potential but clearly brought down by one factor that is FunTouch OS. FunTouch OS has to be the major letdown for Vivo devices too, despite having some serious specifications. It is time for Vivo to revamp its UI or at least it’s the right time for iQoo to develop its interface with certain changes on top of FunTouch like Realme did with Color OS. Yes, performance-wise and gaming-wise, the device is one of the best buys, but there are way too many compromises here. We can count the good parts of the device in a jiffy – battery, camera, and performance. But the bad count is huge – display, build, software, auxiliary cameras, and design.

Looks like six years after the launch, Microsoft is finally done with its Windows 10. The operating system has received so many updates over the years that has brought a handful of new features to the table, but the company has decided to hold the same moniker. After teasing the next generation of Windows during Build last week, Microsoft has announced that it will officially take the wraps off its “next generation of Windows” on June 24th at 11 AM ET (8 PM IST). Microsoft has begun sending the invites out to the media and it is mentioned that CEO Satya Nadella and CPO Panos Panay will be presenting the event.

As many of us already know, the company has been working on a total rejuvenation of the Windows Desktop user interface that is codenamed Sun Valley. Now, at this event company is expected to show off what it has been building all this time. While there aren’t any leaks until now, we can expect the company to include a number of visual enhancements and design overhauls. For starters, the next generation of Windows is expected to deliver a completely redesigned Start menu and taskbar with updated icons, sounds, and app designs. The animations are getting a revamp too. While the name itself is not confirmed, we expect the company to launch it as Windows 11.

Also, the company has recently announced that their Windows 10X that was originally built for dual-screen devices will be called off. Instead, the company is focusing on developing all these 10X features on the main version. CEO Nadella has previously confirmed to unlock a better economy for developers and creators within the Windows OS. On a similar note, the company is also working on revamping its store in recent months and rumors have it that the company will open its store up to all apps and rival platforms.

After staying under the realm since March, Nubia has taken the wraps off its RedMagic 6R which is touted to a gaming device. For those unaware, the company has launched RedMagic 6 and RedMagic 6 Pro back in March making this the third device in the series. The device comes with a multi-dimensional cooling system that includes graphene, VC liquid cooling, and thermal gel which helps in delivering excellent gaming for long durations.

As for the specifications, just like any other gaming phone, the device features a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a Full-HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels. The front-facing camera is embedded in the punch-hole display notch and comes with a 20:9 aspect ratio. Oh wait, the features do not end there. RedMagic 6R also features a 144Hz display with a 360H touch sampling rate with a peak brightness of 770 nits. Now, this is a display that would make any gamer fall for it. It is worth noting that there is an in-display fingerprint sensor.

Under the hood, the device is powered by the latest and greatest Snapdragon 888 SoC coupled with 6, 8, or 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM. As for the storage, the device features a UFS 3.1 storage tech with 128 GB or 256 GB options. With that said, let me address the elephant of the room here, gaming features. RedMagic 6R features a set of gaming trigger shoulder button that brings a response rate of 8.3mms and 400Hz touch sampling rate to the table. Also, the company offers Tencent’s exclusive custom gaming package which includes Call of Duty, The End of the World, Moon Knife, and etc to its buyers.

Taking the story to the optics front, the device boasts a 64 MP primary IMX682 sensor coupled with an 8 MP primary and two other auxiliary cameras. The device features a front-facing camera of 16 MP resolution. All this is backed by a 4200 mAh battery that supports 55W fast charging. Despite carrying all those thermals and a huge battery the device just weighs 186 grams, making it one of the thinnest and lightweight gaming phones in the market.

RedMagic 6R Pricing and Availability

As for availability, the device comes in two colourways including Phantom Black and Steam Silver. The device starts at a base price of 2999 Yuan (roughly 34,155 INR) for the 6 GB RAM and 128 GB variant. The 8 GB RAM and 128 GB variant is made available at 3299 Yuan (roughly 37,580 INR). The 12 GB RAM, 128 GB storage variant and 12 GB RAM, 256 GB storage variant are priced at 3,599 Yuan (roughly 40,995 INR) and 3,899 Yuan (roughly 44,420 INR) respectively. The device will go on sale starting from June 1st and reports suggest that it might make its way to various markets including India.
