Apple has finally taken the covers off the all-new iPhone 13 series that will be the successor to the iPhone 12 series that was launched last year. Apple claims that the all-new iPhone 13 series is a huge upgrade over the iPhone 12 series with a more powerful A15 Bionic chip, upgraded displays, upgraded cameras, and improved battery capacities. Just like last year, there are 4 models in the iPhone 12 series namely the iPhone 13 mini, the iPhone 13, the iPhone 13 Pro, and the iPhone 13 Pro Max.Â
Apple says that the A15 Bionic Chip supports a lot of 5G bands that would allow in a greater 5G coverage. The phones in the 13 series also feature the IP68 rating and can remain submerged in up to 6m water for about 30 minutes. Let’s talk more about these smartphones in detail, and cover each aspect in greater detail, starting with the display.Â
Display
The iPhone 13 Mini and the iPhone 13 arrives with 5.4-inch, and 6.1-inch OLED Super Retina XDR displays respectively with support for Dolby Vision, and HDR. These OLED Super Retina XDR displays are one of the brightest screens in the business, and at just 28% brightness, they are over 800nits bright, with the maximum brightness level being 1200 nits. These displays are still protected by the Ceramic Shield technology that was also present on the iPhone 12 series.Â
On the other hand, the iPhone 13 Pro, and the iPhone 13 Pro Max arrive with 6.1-inch, and 6.7-inch OLED Super Retina XDR displays respectively with support for ProMotion, Dolby Vision, and HDR. Additionally, they are the first-ever iPhones to feature a higher refresh rate of up to 120Hz. The displays are even brighter on the 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max, with a brightness level of 1000 nits at just 25%.Â
Performance
The phones are powered by the A15 Bionic Chip which is said to be the most powerful chip on a smartphone. Apple claims that each A15 Bionic Chip features over 15 billion transistors, and has a new 6-core CPU with dual high-performance cores, and four efficiency cores. The smartphone giant claims that these chips are 50% faster than its main competitors, and the fastest chip in any smartphone to date.Â
Cameras
Apple claims that the cameras on the iPhone 13 series are much better than the 12 series iPhones. The iPhone 13 and 13 Mini house a new wide camera, and the company claims that they are the biggest sensors ever used in an iPhone dual-camera setup and they are capable of capturing excellent pictures in low light. Both these models have the Sensor-shift OIS technology that was introduced last year in the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max models.
The wide camera on the 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max has also been improved significantly and they are now capable of capturing photos up to 2.2x better than the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max cameras. The Ultra-Wide Camera has also been improved and they can capture photos up to 92% better in low light conditions. The Ultra-Wide lens also gets the autofocus capability, which is the first time ever in an iPhone.Â
Both the camera modules offer Cinematic Mode that allows you to record videos of your loved ones with an amazing looking depth effect in Dolby Vision HDR. The iPhone 13 series also features the ProRes technology and an advanced video codec format which is generally used for commercials, broadcasts, and feature films that offers less compression and high color fidelity.Â
